Troubleshooting 101 - Identifying what the issue is
It might seem like an obvious step, but determining what the actual issue is a crucial first step in the troubleshooting process. For example - imagine you're having a hard time printing. Is it just your computer that can't print, or is it everyone? Are you able to print from a different device? This information is what is going to be crucial in helping us narrow down what the actual issue is.
So if you've got an error message that keeps popping up, take a picture! PC making a weird noise? Record it on your phone! Gathering information is going to make it easier for us to figure out what the problem is so we can get you fixed up and back on track.
Troubleshooting 101 - Powering off and back on!
Hey - we've all heard it before! You get on the phone with someone from the helpdesk and they ask you the same thing -- did you try turning it off and back on again? But there's a good reason for it! Powering off a device allows the temporary storage to clear, which can cause a lot of issues when it gets full or even corrupted. This process can also force updates that might be hung up. So no matter the issue, a great first step is to try powering the device off, let it sit for a minute, then powering it back on!
Troubleshooting 101 - Check the Cables!
Another great troubleshooting tip is to check your cables -- it's very easy for a cable to get knocked or nudged ever-so-much that it's no longer making a good connection to your PC/Dock. Gently press/wiggle the cables to make sure they're properly in place.
